The Triangle Day Centre for people with a learning disability - Hounslow Council

The Triangle Resource Centre is located in Hounslow and it is owned and managed by the London Borough of Hounslow. The centre offers a range of activities, social and leisure time to adults with learning disabilities and other complex needs, including physical disabilities and autism. The aims of the Service are to empower Residents to meet their full potential, support them to further develop their independent skills, ensure their privacy and provide care and support in a respectful manner, and promote Residents’ choices wherever possible.

Programme Activities

The development of the programme is based on the Residents’ needs and preferences as identified in their Support Plans and reviews, or expressed via various quality assurance methods, such as staff observations, questionnaires and parents/carers meetings. Activities therefore change but the list below gives an idea of our programmes:

  • Art - where staff help develop group members’ awareness of colour, light and texture.
  • Music - lively or gentle sessions are offered to suit people’s preferences. Sounds and music are used to stimulate responses and interactions.

  • Interactive Story - different sessions are available that can focus on stimulating the imagination and interactions with others.

  • Drama sessions – currently sessions are run by a ‘Speak Out’ staff member and they are very popular and lively.

  • Basic Life skills – where staff work with Residents to help maintain self-care skills or communication skills.

  • Basic Cookery – where staff support Residents to further develop their basic cooking/ snack preparation skills and independence skills.

  • Sensory activities – this is on offer for Residents who enjoy and benefit from the relaxing and stimulating activities including the use of some modern sensory equipment.

  • Community Outings – Residents have the opportunity for greater community participation and integration by participating in groups accessing various places of interest and sport/swimming activities.

  • Yoga sessions – qualified trainers attend the Triangle and offer the opportunity to Residents to participate in stimulating yoga sessions in order for them to achieve greater body awareness.

  • Music therapy - qualified therapists attend the Triangle and offer the opportunity to Residents to participate in therapeutic sessions helping them to improve their communication skills, relieve tension and anxiety and to increase self-awareness and confidence.

  • Physiotherapy sessions – overseen and trained by NHS Physiotherapists Triangle staff support Residents with physiotherapist exercises as detailed in their relevant plans.

Triangle works closely with parents/carers and professionals involved in the overall support the Residents receive, in order to achieve better outcomes. In particular, we work alongside the Hounslow Community Learning Disability Team, which consists of Social Workers, Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Community Nurses and Dieticians.
