Volunteers for Atrial Fibrillation Screening Project needed!

(Published on 13/04/2017)

The Hounslow Community Atrial Fibrillation Project is based at West Middlesex Hospital. The aim of the project is early detection of atrial fibrillation and stroke prevention in the Hounslow community.  AF is atrial fibrillation which is irregular heart rhythm and or rate. The project team would like volunteers to screen people for atrial fibrillation using a mobile phone app with a device.

Screening involves recording an ECG rhythm and after 30 seconds a result of normal or AF is given. The device is very simple to use. If you have a background in health care it would be a bonus but it’s not necessary. The training will include a talk on heart matters and atrial fibrillation and use of the device.

We are looking for volunteers to screen as many people as possible.

AF can lead to stroke, so if you would like to contribute to stroke prevention in Hounslow, please get involved!  No formal qualifications are needed. Volunteers are required to attend a training day, be enthusiastic and enjoy social interaction with the public.
