What is CarePlace?

CarePlace is predominantly a directory of services that meets a wide variety of care and community needs. It allows you to search for services in your area and in most cases, provides contact details, directions (using TFL), web links, as well as enabling you to email the services directly via the site, or feedback your experiences to us. The site also holds information and articles about a range of health and community topics, which aim to support the community.

Is there a cost to register on CarePlace?

CarePlace is free to services providers and residents. Once you have registered for an account on CarePlace, you will be able to complete your profile by adding service descriptions, brochures and photos of your organisation all without charge.

What types of service are contained in the directory?

The directory contains a lot of traditional care services like residential homes and home care agencies, but it also contains health and fitness clubs, charities, advice services, and lots of other groups and activities that support people in the local area. For more details about the services we hold, why not take a look through the CarePlace categories?

I have used a service provider, how can I leave feedback about them?

At the top of each service profile there is a “leave feedback” button which enables you to submit feedback. This is sent to us only and will be passed on to the Local Authority where you live. Depending on the nature of the feedback your Local Authority may wish to contact you to discuss the matter further.

I am unable to contact a service using the details listed on CarePlace – what can I do about it?

If you contact helpdesk@affinityworks.co.uk and notify us of the service you are trying to contact we will do our best to obtain the contact details for you. Alternatively, you can use the “leave feedback” button to inform us of any incorrect information about a particular service.

What is the difference between a shortlist and “my favourites”?

If you add a service to your shortlist, CarePlace will store it in a cookie which will last for 1 year, but could be affected by changes to your machine/browser (e.g. clearing the cookies/temporary internet files). If you add a service to “my favourites”, which requires you to log in, the system will store them until you remove them, irrespective of what else happens on your machine.

I would like to share a service profile with people I know, how can I do this?

On each service profile page there is a social networking toolbar just underneath the map. This enables you to share the service profile across a wide range of social media sites such as Facebook, Google+ etc. There is also an e-mail icon (white envelope) which enables you to share a link to the service profile (multiple e-mail addresses and a custom message can be entered).

Why do some services show in the search results when they are further away than the distance I specified?

This can be for two reasons. Either the service has multiple locations (i.e. different branches) and one of the branches is within your specified distance, or they are further away but have a catchment area. This particularly relates to mobile services such as home care or meals on wheels, or services where the location is irrelevant, such as advice/help phone lines.

How can I get directions to a particular service?

If the service has an address stored, then there will be a “directions” link next to it in the service profile. If you click on the link, the Transport for London (TFL) journey planner will open with the destination address pre-populated. All you need to do is put in your address or post code and TFL will give you the directions across the full range of public transport.

I live outside London, are there any services in my local area?

The directory is primarily focussed on services within London, however there are some services that are elsewhere in the UK. These are generally ones that have been recently used by London residents, or highly specialised services. If you are unsure whether the directory has any services in your local area you can always put your postcode into the search and see.

Can I purchase services directly through CarePlace?

At the moment you cannot purchase services directly through CarePlace. You should contact the service provider using the contact details shown, or the “Enquire about this service” button, and arrange to buy services from them directly.

How can I find out if my Local Authority will provide me with financial assistance?

Each local authority has different eligibility criteria for funding, and different application processes so you should contact the borough that you live in directly to see if they are able to assist you.
